I used to be petrified of technology.
Being bought up in a middle class family who did not believe in the luxury of the latest technology, accessibility to gadgets was always a far fetched dream for me. I remember those days when my friends at school showed off their flashy Nokia N95 mobiles and Motorola V Razors that made my mind twitch with envy. You know what they say about grapes.
Fast forward to my formative years at college and study of ACS, I intentionally stayed away from gadgets and technology- further feeding my inferiority complex towards the ever-changing technology around me. I dreaded it — it was fast, it was new and by the time I’d gotten a hang of it, it had changed too. It shouldn’t be surprising then, that my first experience with Whatsapp began at the tender age of 27.
As my career progressed and interactions with multiple stakeholders increased, the pressing need to adopt technology to collaborate with my team and to efficiently service our clients loomed on me like an impending doom. With much reluctance, and setting aside a lot of prejudice and apprehensions, I took my baby strides towards the vast unknown. Soon, I forayed into the warm embrace of technology and its myriad utilities.
The first brush was with Any.do, a to-do app with massive capabilities that can be used as a planner and can act as an effective calendar at the same time. It was suggested by my dear friend Jack Ben Vincent who runs a successful construction company. A technocrat at heart, the man exploits technology to the fullest to enhance the efficacy of operations and management of his business.
Shouldering on the confidence bestowed upon the successful implementation of Any.do, me and my team began to collaborate more and more on Google Workspace and at a later stage migrated to Microsoft 365 and to more advanced customized softwares designed for task management, pipeline management and accounting.
Just last week, a peer of mine introduced me, stating quite clearly that I was a highly tech savvy person. I amusingly remembered the long, ardent journey from the 22 year old who used to shudder at the very sight of gadgets, to the tech savvy 32 year old entrepreneur who now cannot live without it.
